On the 3rd of July, St Mary Le Strand Church in London was filled with a gathering of family, friends who came together to celebrate the life and legacy of Misty Bailey. The service, presided over by Canon Peter Babington, was a heartfelt tribute to a remarkable woman whose light touched many.
Misty Bailey, born on 30th April 1994, in Port Antonio, Jamaica, was a beacon of grace and creativity. From her early days in Kingston to her flourishing career in the UK, Misty's journey was marked by her exceptional talent and indomitable spirit. Her contributions to music, modelling, acting, and entrepreneurship were celebrated by an illustrious assembly that included HRH Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia, the cousin of King Charles III; musician Quincy Brown; prolific journalist Othman Al Omeir; CW Director Olga Balakleets; designer Else Hardjopawiro, who flew in from Amsterdam; and many other personalities dear to Misty, such as Lady Paris Smith, Lara Accison, Yannick Konan, Darion Miller, Carter Richards, Eva Harold, Alice Sherman, Anastasia Von Siver, Alex Bez, Indree Novikaite, Tony Stuart Watts, Laura Timm, Patricia Caiza, Dr. Pauline Long, and Elvijs Plugis to name a few.
Rebeca Riofrio, who delivered the eulogy, shared her personal connection with Misty, reflecting on their deep bond that began eight years ago. Rebeca's words captured the essence of Misty's vibrant personality and unwavering resilience:
"Thank you all for gathering here today to honor and remember our beloved Misty. Eight years ago, I placed an advert for a casting call, and among the many models who appeared, there she was. Misty stood out not just for her beauty and talent but for the radiant light she carried within her. It wasn't long before our friendship blossomed into a deep, personal bond, and Misty became like a little sister to me."
Rebeca reminisced about Misty's multifaceted nature—her kindness, energy, stubbornness, and unrelenting passion for life. She recalled a memorable moment from 2019 when Misty, with her characteristic eloquence, delivered a stirring speech at the House of Parliament on the struggles faced by artists in the UK.
Misty's battle with lupus, diagnosed in April 2022, was a testament to her strength and determination. Despite the physical and emotional toll of the disease and its treatments, Misty continued to shine in her professional pursuits, inspiring those around her with her courage and faith. Tragically, on the 5th of June 2024, Misty passed away peacefully in her home due to complications from her long illness. Her kidneys had deteriorated over two years of battling lupus, and despite frequent hospital visits, her body could no longer withstand the strain.
The memorial service featured touching tributes from Misty's uncle, Robert Beal, and her aunt, Joy Anderson, who travelled from New York. Friends shared fond memories, painting a picture of a woman whose legacy of resilience and artistic brilliance will endure. Video tributes from her twin sisters, Nickelle and Nickette Henry, added an intimate touch, showcasing the profound impact Misty had on her family and friends.
Misty's career was marked by significant achievements. Her modelling career saw her grace campaigns for L’Oréal, Revlon, and Balmain, and she became a fixture at London Fashion Week. Her debut single "What If" and her subsequent B.E.F.T.A Awards highlighted her musical talent. From 2019 to 2021, Misty collaborated with iconic brands like Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Adidas, and Samsung, her presence illuminating billboards and magazine covers.
In 2022, she launched her fashion brand, Missyle, which showcased at Adidas' flagship store on Bond Street. Her recognition as "Fashion Personality of the Year" underscored her influence in the fashion world. Despite her health challenges, Misty's entrepreneurial spirit never waned, and she remained a source of inspiration for many.
As the service drew to a close, Misty's last Instagram post, featuring Isaiah 54:17, resonated deeply with the attendees, offering a source of strength and comfort.
In loving memory of Misty Bailey, her spirit continues to inspire and guide us. Her legacy of artistic brilliance, entrepreneurial zeal, and heartfelt compassion will forever be cherished. May we all carry forward the joy, resilience, and unyielding spirit she embodied, and may her light continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
Misty was also an active member of the Parliamentary Society for Arts, Fashion & Sports, and her departure is profoundly felt by all in our community. Her funeral is due to take place surrounded by her family in Jamaica, bringing her journey full circle back to her roots. This article, published by the Parliament News magazine, is a testament to her impact and contributions as one of our own.
