London, United Kingdom - On the evening of December 6th, 2023, the prestigious law firm Hogan Lovells, located at Atlantic House, London, became the gathering place for distinguished individuals, business leaders, and entrepreneurs from around the world. The occasion was the Invest Africa Annual End of Year Reception, a noteworthy event that brought together key players in business and investment across the African continent.

The event was graced by the presence of notable figures, including Othman Al Omeir, Editor in Chief of Elaph Publication, and Rebeca Riofrio CEO of the UK Parliamentary Society two individuals whose professional accomplishments have left an indelible mark in their respective fields. The star of the evening, however, was none other than Rene Awambeng, a prominent member of the Advisory Board of Invest Africa, who delivered a compelling address that captivated the audience.

Invest Africa, a renowned business and investment platform with over sixty years of experience in Africa, has consistently provided its vast network with valuable information and unparalleled exposure to lucrative business opportunities. Comprising more than 400 member companies, including multinationals, private equity firms, institutional investors, development finance institutions, professional service organizations, government bodies, and entrepreneurs, Invest Africa is a driving force behind Africa's socio-economic growth.


Mr. Awambeng, a member of Invest Africa's Advisory Board since 2015, opened his address with a heartfelt expression of gratitude for the opportunity to address the esteemed gathering. He humbly reflected on his journey, which, three years ago, took an unexpected turn with a life-saving kidney transplant. He credited his family, friends, and Afreximbank for allowing him the privilege of serving Africa.


The highlight of Mr. Awambeng's speech was his acknowledgment of the Global Executive Leader Award he received from Powerful Media's Powerlist Black Excellence Awards 2024. Sponsored by the London Stock Exchange Group, this award recognized his outstanding leadership, vision, innovation, influence, and transformative impact on Afreximbank. It celebrated the institution's transformative work in Africa, emphasizing its commitment to promoting, financing, and facilitating trade and infrastructure development across the continent.

In his address, Mr. Awambeng encouraged the younger generation to aspire to excellence and work diligently to achieve their goals. He emphasized the rapidly changing global landscape, with challenges and opportunities in areas ranging from armed conflicts to artificial intelligence.

As the evening continued, Mr. Awambeng shared his thoughts on ten key themes for the coming year:

  1. The role of Afreximbank in driving intra-African trade and implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.

  2. Elections worldwide, spotlighting the state of global democracy.

  3. America's global choices and their impact on international affairs.

  4. Europe's evolving role in addressing global crises.

  5. The ongoing crisis in the Middle East and its potential consequences.

  6. Multipolar disorder and its implications for global stability.

  7. Tensions between major powers, particularly China and the United States.

  8. The clean-energy transition and its impact on geopolitics.

  9. Economic uncertainty and the challenges facing Western economies.

  10. The increasing adoption and regulation of artificial intelligence.


Mr. Awambeng concluded his address by wishing the audience a successful evening of networking and forging new business connections.
