On Tuesday 2 June 2026, the House of Commons welcomed an international gathering of journalists, entrepreneurs, diplomats, artists, and cultural leaders for the Parliamentary Society for Arts, Fashion & Sports Assembly, hosted by Alex Davies-Jones MP and Rebeca Riofrio.

The Assembly focused on a pressing challenge facing modern creative industries: how to create safer, more inclusive, and more responsible environments while continuing to celebrate excellence and achievement.

Among those honoured during the evening was Andrea Thompson, award-winning journalist, speaker, consultant, and former Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire UK, who also served as 2025 Chair of the British Society of Magazine Editors and remains on the committee as head of DEI.

Thompson received the Medal of Honour for Excellence in Global Communication in recognition of a distinguished career spanning more than twenty years across some of Britain's most influential media organisations.

Having worked with publications including Marie Claire, The Guardian, Glamour, Grazia, The Sunday Times, and Channel 4, Thompson has helped shape conversations around culture, fashion, women’s issues, and social change.

Addressing the Assembly before receiving her medal, she reflected on the determination required to build a successful career within a constantly evolving media landscape.

Her remarks focused on resilience, perseverance, and the importance of remaining committed to one’s values while navigating the pressures and opportunities of modern journalism.

The audience responded warmly to her reflections, many recognising the challenges faced by women pursuing leadership positions within media and publishing.

Receiving the Parliamentary Society Medal of Honour for Excellence in Global Communication, Thompson was recognised not only for professional success but for helping shape a more inclusive and responsible media environment through thoughtful leadership and storytelling.
