In the heart of one of London’s most inviting neighbourhoods lies a pair of quietly remarkable properties: The Chelsea Townhouse and its sister hotel, 11 Cadogan Gardens. We were recently invited for a private tour and elegant afternoon tea — and what unfolded was an experience of charm, discretion, and impeccable hospitality.

As the taxi pulled up to Cadogan Gardens, I was instantly transported back in time. Directly across the street once lived Martha Gellhorn, the third wife of Ernest Hemingway. As a teenager, I had the privilege of working for her — a woman of astonishing intellect and courage. To return now to this storied corner of Chelsea and be welcomed into two exquisite properties was deeply moving.

The Chelsea Townhouse, which opened its doors in September 2023, occupies three adjoining Victorian red-brick townhouses. The interiors are elegant yet inviting, filled with natural light, high ceilings, original fireplaces, and period detailing. There are 36 beautifully renovated rooms and suites, each offering a thoughtful blend of heritage character and contemporary comfort.
A truly rare feature is the hotel’s access to the private Cadogan Gardens, open only to residents. Select suites and the Drawing Room open directly onto this green sanctuary — a tranquil and entirely private slice of Chelsea that feels a world away from the city's bustle.

Our tour, led by the poised and knowledgeable Tatiana Stacke, Director of Sales and Marketing, took us through both properties. What sets them apart is their residential charm; these are not grandiose hotels but rather elegant homes, complete with a library, dining salon, and the sort of welcoming spaces that encourage you to stay, reflect, and recharge.

The Chelsea Townhouse has just been inducted into the prestigious Relais & Châteaux family — a global collection of independently owned luxury hotels and restaurants that embody authenticity, heritage, and excellence. It now stands proudly alongside its sister property, 11 Cadogan Gardens, as one of only two London hotels to be part of this renowned association.

Following our tour, we were treated to a delightful afternoon tea hosted by Denise Parkinson, Vice President of Business Development at Allied Global Marketing. The guest list included leading figures from the film and creative industries — all of whom appreciated the privacy and elegance these properties provide.

In a city often overwhelmed by spectacle, The Chelsea Townhouse and 11 Cadogan Gardens offer something increasingly rare: understated luxury, complete discretion, and a genuine sense of belonging. For celebrities, creatives, and discerning travellers alike, they represent a sanctuary — a place to feel at home without ever being on display.
Guests are also invited to join the Relais & Châteaux Recognition Programme, which offers a personalised welcome, exclusive events, and access to a digital travel book designed to enrich the stay before one even arrives.

Owned by Cadogan Estates and operated by Iconic Luxury Hotels, these two jewels in Chelsea’s crown are more than just places to stay — they are destinations in themselves.
